Shields Appointed to Advisory of UBC's New Tech LabFI.SPAN’s CEO & Founder Lisa Shields gets appointed a member of the G7 Fellows of the newly announced Creative Destruction Lab-West.
CDL-West, an initiative of UBC’s Sauder School of Business, is an offshoot of the very successful Creative Destruction Lab incubator based in the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. It is aimed at cultivating and commercializing early-stage ventures begun in a university research context. It provides a unique style of milestone-based coaching with the goal of maximizing equity-value creation. The CDL-West G7 is comprised of entrepreneurial luminaries, including Jeff Mallett, the founding President, COO and Director of Yahoo! Inc. from 1995-2002. Shields, no stranger to the startup world, is a strong advocate for growing the tech industry locally. She believes instead of competing with each other that the industry must unite as a community to improve the regulatory and financing environment and thinks the CDL-West is the perfect initiative to lay the groundwork for that. “Vancouver is on it’s way to becoming the one of the premier global tech hubs, I’m delighted to be a part of a program that is enabling that”, states Shields. The team has just returned from a successful week in Toronto for the 2016 Women in PaymentsCanada Symposium with an arm full of hardware. The annual symposium program provides powerful and relevant content in the rapidly changing fields of retail payments, commercial payments and leadership.
FI.SPAN picked up the Audience Choice Award in the WiP Unicorn Challenge, a pitch competition among payment-industry startups. CEO and Founder, Lisa Shields also won the Award For Innovation, a recognition given to a woman who has promoted payments innovation through creativity, vision and perseverance in the payments industry. We couldn’t be prouder! The annual symposium program provides powerful and relevant content in the rapidly changing fields of retail payments, commercial payments and leadership. |
